Top tip: using PlastiKote spray paint on a wet and windy day
One of the most frequently asked questions we get is how do I spray paint when it is raining or windy?
The answer is simple – we use a garage or shed and a cardboard box as a spray booth. A spray booth is easy to make, extremely effective and usually free! Get a big box – the bigger the better. Set it up in your garage or shed, preferably on an old table already covered with newspaper or cardboard.
Another top tip is to use a smaller box inside your booth to act as a plinth to stand your item to be sprayed on. This can easily be moved to enable access all round your sprayed item without having to touch it. Place the object you want to spray on the plinth and spray.
The overspray stays on the inside of the box. A spray paint booth is ideal for using PlastiKote spray paint on small projects.

How to: the ultimate chalky finish with PlastiKote Chalk spray paint
Introducing Chalk spray paint, the most recent addition to the PlastiKote spray paint range.
With a flat chalky finish, Chalk spray paint is ideal for recycling old furniture or giving a vintage look to something more modern. There are seven heritage colours to choose from with three more being added in the Spring. You can also find out more about Chalk on the PlastiKote website here.
Chalk colours: Dark Hessian , Old Hessian, Pale Rose, Vintage White, Pastel Green, Frost Blue, Caffe Espresso
You can use one colour over another and then gently rub back to reveal both layers. Or spray Chalk over Gold or Silver in the new Leaf spray paints and then lightly rub back to give an aged look.

Here’s a picture of one of our favourite projects in Chalk – a cabinet sprayed in Pale Rose.
How to:
- Give the cabinet a light sanding to give a good key for the Chalk paint.
- Make sure the cabinet is clean and all dust from the sanding is removed by wiping with a damp cloth and allowing to dry,
- When completely dry, use Twist & Spray Primer to give a light base coat all over. This will increase coverage, adhesion and durability.
- Following the instructions on the can, apply Chalk. It’s really important to shake the can for the stated 3 minutes before spraying to ensure the paint mixes well. We recommend shaking the can regularly throughout the spraying process and particularly in between coats.
- The paint will be dry in two to three hours but allow the paint on the cabinet to completely Harden off for 48-72 hour before using.

Instagrammer project: upcycling with Chalk and @Lanni_x
It seems our hot new product Chalk spray paint is quite a hit with the interior design world – and it was great to find instagrammer Lanni illustrating it on her stylish and inspirational Instagram page @lanni_x.
Lanni is a wife and mum of two from Manchester. She brings her style and flair to her work as a hairdresser but by far her biggest passion is interiors. She told us:
“I love nothing more than finding my next project to do around the house, especially upcycling old furniture. I find it saves so much money which is great when you have a family and house to run. I started my interior Instagram page about a year ago and since then I have done many diy projects which I often share on my page @lanni_x. My absolute favourites to date are my ones using Plastikote. Mainly because it’s so simple to use, very quick and easy to apply and so effective that it can totally change the look of something.”
Lanni upcycled an old gold mirror using our new Chalk spray paint in vintage white.

It now makes an elegant statement in her home. We love how Lanni brings light and style into her interiors.
