How to: garden noughts & crosses with PlastiKote Spray Paint

Turn your garden into an outdoor games room this summer with PlastiKote Spray Paint. Whether you want to play noughts and crosses, skittles or short tennis, it’s amazing what you can achieve with PlastiKote Garden Games! Here we show you how to create noughts and crosses.

You will need:

10 Flowerpot saucers – terracotta or plastic

Dustsheets or newspaper

Stencil if desired (make your own with a craft knife and cereal packet!)

PlastiKote Twist & Spray Colour in two colours

How to:

  • To make the counters, make sure the pot saucers are clean and dry.
  • In a well-ventilated area or preferably outside, prepare your spraying area by laying out newspaper or dustsheets.
  • Spray five saucers one colour and the other five the other colour. Apply a couple of fine coats, allowing 15-20 minutes between coats. They will be thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • If you want to, decorate with a complementary colour and your stencil.
  • Allow 24-48 hours for the paint to completely harden off.
  • Mark out your grid using the PlastiKote Garden Games.
  • PlastiKote Garden Games can be used on grass, concrete, tarmac or Astroturf and will wash away over time with the rain. Fast and direct to spray, it takes just 20 minutes to be completely dry. One can will spray about 40 metres of lines, so don’t just stop at noughts and crosses. Have your own back garden Wimbledon or Olympics and mark out a tennis court or running track!

Reader projects: Handmade at Highshore

This month, we celebrate and congratulate Handmade at Highshore, an exciting, creative Enterprise initiative from Highshore School, a Special Needs Secondary School in Camberwell, South London.

From Year 10, students have Enterprise lessons where they set up micro businesses to learn about working together and to raise funds for educational visits and residential trips. In years 12 to 14, students have a whole day of Enterprise each week. A mix of these classes contribute to Handmade At Highshore.

Handmade At Highshore makes and sells at craft stalls and local markets including Borough Market. Its emphasis is on recycling, repurposing and upcycling. From a financial viewpoint, this keeps the initial outlay on materials to a minimum as their budgets are limited. From an ethical viewpoint, this teaches their students to use their own resourcefulness and creativity in finding new uses for unwanted and discarded items.

Handmade At Highshore sources materials from Streetbank, donations from the community and local flytipping.

Projects they do regularly include:

  • Making planters from old pallets
  • Recycling wool clothes and broken jewellery into felt flower brooches
  • Repainting and decoupaging old furniture
  • Upcycling bottles, jars and containers
  • Making seeded paper cards from eggboxes
  • Repainting and repurposing household items.

Mini makes: pretty storage on a shoestring with PlastiKote Spray Paint

Spray old shoeboxes in your choice of colour, then take a picture of the shoes to be stored and print them out. How to: create a frosted heart jar with Plastikote Spray Paint

Whether it’s a wedding, a special event or a romantic meal for two, these frosted heart jars are just gorgeous! They transform ordinary glass jars into something very special…

 

You will need:

Glass jar – we used a Mason Jar

Scissors

Sticky Labels

Newspaper/dust sheets

PlastiKote Glass Frosting

How to:

  • Cut out a heart shape from a sticky label.
  • Stick the heart shape onto the jar.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  • Apply a couple of light coats of PlastiKote Glass Frosting.
  • It will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • Once dry, peel the heart sticker off the jar.
  • Fill with water and your favorite flowers to make a gorgeous vase! You can always try the same steps with PlastiKote Metallic and make a lovely tea light holder.

Blogger star: Rachael Jess transforms a toy chest

We love the things that Rachael Jess makes and we’re delighted to feature one of her most recent makeovers – a treasure chest from an old toy box.

Rachael has a beautiful young son and as she works full time, she treasures her weekends and aims to have both days packed out with crafts, events or activities to make precious memories from.  Once her son is asleep, she gets out the Modge Podge, sewing machine or staple gun and upcycles an unloved item she’s found at the local car boot.  It will usually contain a Marvel, Star Wars or Time Lord theme but apparently she sometimes does ‘normal’! As the step-by-step pictures show below, Rachael puts a lot of thought into her projects and we love the map she created for the lid of the treasure chest and the straps with gold coin decorations on the chest.
