How to: make an Easter Garland with PlastiKote Spray Paint

Make Easter even more special this year!  Here’s how to make a fabulous Easter garland with PlastiKote spray paint.

 

You will need:

String

PVA glue

Balloons

Newspaper/dust sheets

PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel in various colours

We bought all our items for the garland from The Range.

How to

  • Blow up balloons to an egg shape of between 8-10cm
  • Pour some PVA glue into a large bowl and dilute with one third water. Soak string in the glue solution, then wrap the string around a balloon until it starts to hold the egg shape.
  • Repeat for the desired number you wish to use and hang the balloons to dry.

  • When completely dry, carefully burst the balloons inside the string egg shape and remove any remaining pieces of balloon.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheet out in a well-ventilated working area or outside.
  • Using PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel, spray the string egg shapes with your choice of colour.
  • Attach the eggs to a length of string, fishing wire or ribbon to make the garland.
  • Display your garland for a lovely Easter decoration!

8 - Hobbycraft Valetines Canvas after 750x410

How to: make a Valentine canvas with PlastiKote spray paint

Show your Valentine just how much you care with our heart canvas!  Here’s how to make the perfect ‘I love you’ gift with PlastiKote spray paint.

 

You will need:

Square canvas (we used 20cm square)

Masking tape

Buttons

Felt

Hot glue gun

Newspaper/dust sheets

Plastikote Fast Dry Enamel Spray Paint in Night Blue and Red Metallic.

How to:

  • Cut out the felt into a heart shape to fit the canvas.
  • Using the hot glue gun, glue buttons of various sizes to the felt heart. Leave to dry.
  • Using the masking tape, mask stripes onto the canvas.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  • On the button heart, apply a couple of coats of PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel in the colour of your choice. We chose Red Metallic. Allow 5 – 10 minutes between coats.
  • On the canvas, apply a couple of coats of PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel in the colour of your choice. We chose Night Blue. Allow 5 – 10 minutes between coats.
  • Everything will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • Peel the masking tape off the canvas.
  • Using the hot glue gun, glue the felt heart to the canvas.
  • Give to your loved one for the perfect Valentine’s gift!

3 - Metallic and Crackle Wine Bottles after 750x410

How to: create stylish accessories from upcycled wine bottles

Lots of empty bottles in the recycling bin after the festive celebrations? Spray with PlastiKote Metallic spray paints for the easiest upcycle ever!

 

You will need:

Old wine bottles

Newspaper/dust sheets

PlastiKote Metallic Spray Paint

How to:

  • Soak off labels and remove sticky residue.
  • Make sure the bottles are clean and dry.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  • Following instructions on the can, spray paint with the Metallic colour of your choice (there’s 14 to choose from including Gold, Copper, Silver and Brushed Nickel). We used Metallic Gold.
  • The bottles will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • When completely dry, use as candleholders or vases to add a metallic accent to your home.

How to: make a stunning Christmas wreath

This lovely wreath provides the perfect welcome for your guests this Christmas. And it is so quick and easy – as well as very striking!

You will need:

A wreath – we bought ours from Hobbycraft

Newspaper/dust sheets

PlastiKote Twist & Spray in White Satin

A selection of fir cones

How to:

  • Make sure the cones  are clean and dry.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  • Apply two to three coats of PlastiKote Twist & Spray in White to the wreath and half of the cones. Allow 5–10 minutes between coats.
  • The cones and wreath will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • Using a glue gun, carefully attach the cones to the wreath and leave to dry for 24 hours.
  • Using raffia, string or wire attach to wreath to your front door.
  • Happy Christmas!

This is one of our favourite projects – it’s a fabulous way to upcycle tins and there’s plenty of room to fit sweets and treats in for each day! The perfect start to a homemade Christmas.

You will need:

Old tin cans

Newspaper/dust sheets

PlastiKote Twist & Spray in White Gloss and Bright Red Gloss

PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel Brush On in Black

Small paint brush

Sweets and treats

Tissue paper and ribbon to decorate

Step by step how to

How to:

  • Make sure the tin cans are clean and dry.
  • Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  • Apply two to three coats of PlastiKote Twist & Spray, spraying half the cans in White and half in Red. Allow 5–10 minutes between coats.
  • The cans will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • When the cans are completely dry, use PlastiKote Fast Dry Enamel Brush On in Black to paint the numbers 1 – 24 on the cans.
  • Fill with little gifts, promise notes or sweet treats.
  • Top with tissue paper, tie up with ribbon and enjoy the countdown to Christmas!

  • Place the doilies on cardboard to keep them flat and ensure you have covered the whole doily.
  • Apply two to three coats of PlastiKote Fluorescent spray paint. We chose Fluorescent in Pink and Green. Allow 5 – 10 minutes between coats.
  • The doilies will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  • Use as placemats or as table centerpieces!

How to: create perfect summer dining

In the first of our summer dining features we show you how to create beautiful vases for your table centrepiece from empty wine bottles.

You will need:

Empty wine bottles

Newspaper/dust sheets

Elastic bands

PlastiKote Stained Glass Spray Paint

How to:

 

  1. Make sure the bottles are clean and dry.
  2. Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  3. Place the elastic bands around the bottle to suit your chosen design or pattern.
  4. Stick a garden cane into the earth and place the bottle over it. This will allow you to spray the whole bottle without touching it.
  5. Apply two to three coats of PlastiKote Stained Glass spray paint, depending on how translucent a finish you would like. We chose Stained Glass in Pink, Green and Yellow. Allow 5 – 10 minutes between coats.
  6. The bottles will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  7. Remove the elastic bands.
  8. Use as table centrepieces, flower vases or as ornaments!

How to: create colourful flower pots – inside and outside the home!

Add an extra splash of colour inside and outside the home this summer with our stylish terracotta pots.

 

You will need:

Terracotta pots

PlastiKote Twist & Spray in Pink Burst, Exotic Sea and New Yellow

How to:

 step by step white background

  1. Make sure the pots are clean and dry.
  2. Spread newspaper/dust sheets out in a well-ventilated working area or preferably outside.
  3. Apply PlastiKote Twist & Spray Primer first to seal the terracotta and prime the pots. Terracotta is porous and tends to absorb a lot of paint.
  4. Apply two to three coats of PlastiKote Twist & Spray in the colour of your choice. We chose Pink Burst, Exotic Sea and New Yellow.  Allow 5 – 10 minutes between coats.
  5. The pots will be touch dry in 30-50 minutes and thoroughly dry in 2-3 hours.
  6. Plant up and arrange for a colourful display – even before the flowers have bloomed!
